And that's a wrap.

A Murder Is Announced closed yesterday. I think this weekend was definitely better than last weekend, in terms of people being secure with their lines. I had a man come up to me after yesterday's show being incredibly effusive about how much he liked my performance, talking about how "nuanced" it was. Those who saw the show may differ, but I don't think of Bunny as an especially nuanced character! Still, I'm glad people enjoyed it.

I was unimpressed during strike, though. Remind me if I ever complain about people at MITG&S shows not staying for strike that it could be worse. At least for those, people are just leaving. It seems to me incredibly tacky for most of the cast and crew to go off to the party while strike isn't finished! I and one other cast member stayed to help the lighting guy pack up his stuff, while everyone else was over at the party eating the goulash and drinking. They seemed kind of surprised when we finally showed up. Sheesh. The cast didn't have a lot of divas (one person was somewhat so, though), but apparently they just sort of forgot that lights had to be struck too. Strike wasn't even that long!

I've enjoyed this venture into straight plays, but I think I'm going back to musicals. I didn't find this quite as satisfying as shows where I sing. This group is doing Brigadoon in the spring, which could be fun if I can stand the producer for another show (she's an older woman, been involved with the group for years and years, and she fusses in a way that seriously tests my patience). I could audition for Princess Ida, too, though honestly the part of Blanche doesn't interest me all that much. She could be fun from an acting standpoint, I suppose. Really I'd like to play Psyche, but so would everyone else.

Or, maybe I'll find something entirely different to do. We shall see.

Speaking of G&S, I went to the MITG&SP/NEGASS finales sing-through on Saturday afternoon, which was a lot of fun. I unexpectedly got asked to conduct, which mostly entailed (a) trying to keep the pianist from running away with the tempi and (b) telling people to stand up. :) I didn't do my voice any favors, singing parts ranging from Bunthorne to Gianetta (we sang some other non-finale stuff after the planned finales), but it was a lot of fun. Must do more singing!

Now I'm starting to panic over getting holiday stuff done. I leave for Colorado a week from tomorrow, and I have a lot to do between now and then.

You can give a nuanced performance of an unnuanced character, though-- and Bunny would be sadly easy to play one-dimensionally.

Back in August, at a Residence in Ministry event, one of the other probationary pastors was Korean-American, and I mde an effort to be particularly friendly, as White people out here tend to be shy of talking with people whose English isn't very American. And among the things we talked about was what it meant to her-- how freeing it was-- to pray in Korean during church services. (She's wrangling a Korean fellowship as half her appointment, and is an associate pastor at an Anglo church for the other half. The senior pastor at the Anglo church asked her to pray regularly during their services.)

That makes a lot of sense to me, and I bet it's at least analogous to how it is to you to combine theatre with singing.

Good you got tickets to go home. Wave to the mountains for me. I'll be there in a month...finally! :)

It was lovely to see you. We really need to get together sometime. The kids are HUGE!!!

Yay for you! I'm sure you were awesome ;). And yes- sometimes people can be very inconsiderate about strikes. Fortunately I get paid to strike shows so I don't mind it taking a while (most times). :D
