I'm going to quote myself, from a comment I just made in
colorwheel's journal:
"Y'know, I never thought of myself as the fangirl type. But I'm definitely a fangirlyman. :)"
I'm so grateful to the Freaks and
tahnan and
leighjen for introducing me to Girlyman. They get more harmony and texture out of three voices and mostly acoustic instruments than I've ever heard. They played a lot of my favorites, including "The Shape I Found You In," "Viola," and of course "Postcards from Mexico," and their awesome versions of "Way Down Yonder in the Minor Key" and "Son of a Preacher Man." And they had some new stuff, too. There was one that Ty said Nate had done musical stuff to that made her head explode, that had some phenomenal harmonies. But I think the one that got me the most was "Reva Thereafter" (not sure on the spelling of "Reva"), a song Nate wrote about his grandmother.
I was late getting to the club, after a long hair appointment and the usual vagaries of the T, so I missed the opening act, but I got there about two bars into Girlyman's first number. Whew!
October apple-picking/Girlyman trip to Groton, anyone? :)
