Can I move to Vancouver please?
Jul. 16th, 2002 01:42 pmWow, I'm groggy. A week straight of 4-6 hours of sleep a night followed by a redeye transcontinental flight = bleary me.
But what a week it was. Vancouver is the most extraordinarily beautiful city I've seen in a long time, and one of the few places I've visited to which I could seriously consider packing up and moving. It was clean, and full of trees and parks and beaches, and populated by friendly people. We traipsed around many of the key areas, and went for a walk in the foothills north of the city. And sat on the beach and watched the sun set. And ate way the heck too much really good gelato. (Mondo Gelato, official caterer of the 2002 NPL convention!) And had really cheap, excellent sushi.
And solved puzzles and talked to friends I only see once or twice a year, and played games (remind me to explain "One Two Many" sometime!), and laughed a lot.
It was a less intense experience than con typically has been for me. I think this was largely because we went so early, so it wasn't a tightly compressed time, but instead somewhat more relaxed. And I spent more time out of the hotel doing other stuff than I often have at conventions.
Oh, and the answer to the subject line question is "No, not until after con 2004"... because we were successful in our bid to host the 2004 convention here. Much work to be done... eek!
