Well, here I am, it's my last day at this job. (It's a freelance/contract gig, I've been here for six months or so.) It's a shame; I've enjoyed working here. But, it's the nature of the business; projects come and then they go. And I think people here have been happy with me; they've said they want me back next time there's a suitable project. So that's good. Two different groups of people want to take me out to lunch; fortunately, I live close to the office, so I can meet up with one group later in the week.

In the meanwhile, this is going to be my spring cleaning week. In a variety of ways. I guess it starts today, with cleaning out my files here and getting rid of some of the mountain of paper I've accumulated. (And finding absurd numbers of paper clips and binder clips under all the piles!)

But I have a bunch else I want to do. My room is a complete and total disaster area, even by my standards, and I need to clean it up. Then I need to clean out my closets and cart stuff off to the thrift shop to donate. (I need to rent a car for a couple days to schlep stuff around town.) Then, my desk is the next project: I need to get my files in order if I'm going to be serious about being a freelancer. And I need more workspace than I have right now. The last project is to get new slats for my bed, since right now it has two real slats and a jury-rigged plywood piece.

I promised myself that the first week after this job ended, I'd take the week off and do all the stuff around the house I've been putting off, so this is my chance. I need to lay in a stock of good cleaning music; any suggestions?

Then I need to do my taxes (ugh) and a crossword proofreading job and edit my father's manuscript.

Someone found us another baritone for the chorus, hallelujah! I think we'll be ok now, if I can get a little more sound out of the sopranos and keep the tenors from hurting themselves on the high notes. (Falsetto, guys, falsetto!)

*yawn* I'm tired. I went to my friend Chris's Oscars party last night, which was a hoot as always (nothing like a roomful of people making snide remarks at the television!), but I stayed through the end of the show, which meant I got about five and a half hours of sleep last night.

Random thoughts on the Oscars:

  • What was Gwyneth Paltrow thinking with that dress? Eeeewww.
  • Halle Berry's dress had a great bottom half, but I didn't like the top. Her reaction to her award was refreshingly genuine, though when she got to the point of thanking her lawyer, I thought they should've cut her off.
  • Sidney Poitier is just such class, all the way. And Denzel isn't far behind.
  • I loved Whoopi's "Moulin Rouge" entrance. Pity it was her best moment.
  • Cirque du Soleil rocks.
  • The "what do movies mean to you?" thingy at the beginning was much better than I was afraid of. Kind of fun, really. Ditto the New York tribute (Woody Allen showed up!).
  • Elijah Wood. Those eyes should be illegal. (Comment from someone else at the party: "I thought his eyes had to be CGI. I didn't think anyone's eyes could be that blue." Me: "Or that big.")

Okay, I'd better go finish organizing my papers here to hand off to the person who'll be keeping them.

Oh, no

Spring cleaning. Great. I'm so doomed. I'll probably have to do the same this week...

Gotta love those guys who can sing. Church choir has just recruited a new tenor-- which means I might get to be an alto again! Yay!
