alaria_lyon has what seems to me to be a good way to commemorate 9/11. Basically, it involves choosing 11 charities and sending a donation to each. Her donation is $18, because the value of the Hebrew "chai" (meaning "life") is 18, and it's also 2x9. But I think one could choose whatever amount seems right to oneself.
