A challenge: Come up with a list of kids' lit characters, one for each letter of the alphabet.

RIP Wally Schirra.

Wally Schirra, one of the original Mercury 7 astronauts, has died. He was the only person to fly missions in the Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo programs.

Of the original Mercury 7, only John Glenn and Scott Carpenter (for whom my favorite park growing up was named) survive. Another generation of pioneers passes on.
