National Coming Out Day.
Oct. 11th, 2007 08:28 pmI don't have any particular coming out to do; I am, insofar as I'm sexual at all, heterosexual.
But let me say it loud and clear: People come in all varieties. Some of them love people of the same gender. Some love people of another gender. Some love people of multiple genders. And I'm glad of that. If we were all the same, life would be way too boring.
I believe all people should be allowed to marry whomever they choose. I believe nobody should be discriminated against because of whom they love. I'm proud to live in a state that recognizes same-sex marriage, and I'm pleased to count among my friends people of many orientations and identities.

So if you're reading this and you're hesitating about coming out, let me say this: whatever your orientation, it won't change my opinion of you. While I have no expertise on these matters, if I can help, please ask me.
Growing up, I didn't have any contact with people whom I knew were anything other than heterosexual. Though I don't think I ever consciously discriminated, I know there were things I needed to learn and understand. Some of you on my friends list helped me with that learning and understanding, and for that I thank you. And for anything I ever said or did that made matters more uncomfortable than they needed to be, I am very sorry.
