I want a fun summer dress. Not too expensive. Something for general use, not a "fancy dress." Just a cute dress in size 18 that's not going to make me look frumpy.

Help?

Dress Barn--there's one in the shopping plaza near the Wellington T station. Reasonable prices, and they have an excellent selection in sizes from 2 to 24. Dress Barn is made of win.

It's really all about the cut. Personally I go for styles that ton down my hips, usually with thicker material and a wavy cut bottom. Fit n' flare is pretty popular right now and it is flattering on a lot of folks. Check out JCPenny for some money minded ideas.

Lana says Eddie Bauer dresses are casual, comfy, well-made, look good, and usually come in size 18. Not necessarily cheap, but not too expensive, IMO.

Marshall's sometimes has great finds in size 18. There's one in Meadow Glen Mall along Rte 16 and another at the Twin City Plaza on McGrath Hwy just up from Lechmere.

I have a dress from Holy Clothing that I like. They carry all sorts of sizes and colors, and their supply can be worn LARPing too: http://stores.shop.ebay.com/HOLYCLOTHING-EXCLUSIVES-Sizes-Sm-5X/Shop-Dresses.html_

Hi Kath, this is Kim :)

Lane Bryant makes really cute clothes and size 18 is easy to find at their stores. There is a store at the Galleria and if you look on their website right now they have a lot of fun summer dresses.

Good luck! Here's hoping the weather cooperates so you actually have a chance to wear your summer dress

I liked the one [livejournal.com profile] muffyjo was wearing last night, though perhaps that would be just a little fancier than you're looking for?

I second the Lane Bryant. A wrap style dress that accentuates your waist with an A line or fuller shirt will be a great fit for you.
