Ended up having a very nice quiet new year's eve. [livejournal.com profile] greenlily came over and we had supper and inaugurated my new DVD player by watching Pirates of the Caribbean. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] tahnan: that movie is far, far better than it has any right to be. What a great romp! Lots of good eye candy, swashbuckling, and humor, and just the right sort of thing to watch on New Year's Eve.

Today: not so good. A lot of lazing around and spending too much time on the computer. But I finished Avernum, a really good game, so that's something.

I'm not making New Year's resolutions this year. Or at least, I'm not calling them resolutions, because that implies guilt if I don't live up to them, and I don't need any more pressure to put on myself, thanks. So, I'm calling them

instead.

  1. Make myself real meals more often, instead of ordering in or just munching. I had bean soup (from the freezer) and rice, tortillas, and greens for dinner tonight.
  2. Along the same lines, take lunch to work instead of buying it.
  3. Keep the house less cluttered. This is very difficult for me, but I do like it when things are tidier.
  4. Communicate better with those who submit puzzles for The Enigma.
  5. Be more regular about practicing singing.

I also want to set an exercise/fitness/physical health goal, but I'm not sure how to phrase it. Not in terms of pounds lost, because that's too hard to control. I'm looking at, say, the first Legends event in mid-April as one goal point, and con in July as another, and the first fall Legends event in September as a third. But I'm not sure what to aim for at each of those points. Anyone have suggestions?

..inaugurated my new DVD player by watching Pirates of the Caribbean...

How funny. I did the same thing yesterday.

Possible goals on Legends events - presumably a Legends event includes a certain amount of physical activity, which makes you tired. Set a goal involving being less tired at the end of a certain amount of such activity.
