Two recommendations.
Nov. 20th, 2004 12:09 amRecommendation the first: go see Iolanthe if you haven't. Of course I'm biased, having choreographed some of it, but I quite enjoyed it tonight. Orchestra's very sharp, chorus sounds super (props to
greenlily and
mrmorse for their vocal directing), staging & characters very well done too (props to
navrins). And the audience liked my trio choreography, yay! (Helped immensely by
tenore and T and L's great style with it, of course.)
Recommendation the second: Read The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, by Mark Haddon. Quick read; I read it all today, part on my morning commute and part between work and Iolanthe. It's quick, but it's also gripping. The narrator is an autistic boy, and the understanding the author has of the autistic mind is extraordinary. The story is sad and funny and moving and excellently written. Perhaps its themes -- including how disabilities affect families -- resonate more strongly for me than they may for those who haven't lived that particular challenge, but I think it's worth anyone's reading.
And now I suppose I should go to bed.
