Accumulated brain clutter
Mar. 5th, 2003 08:57 amRandom observations from the past few days:
1. I hear that a local theater group (the Footlight Club, for those for whom that means anything) is doing Ragtime next spring. I have decided this is my new goal to work toward, performancewise. I don't think anyone would cast me as Mother, because I can't belt, but maybe Emma Goldman... I need to come up with a really kickass audition song.
2. Notes on watching the video of the Broadway revue I was in last fall:
3. I was listening to one of Bryn Terfel's CDs of Rodgers & Hammerstein songs on the way to work this morning, and was reminded of how much I love his voice. Unlike most opera singers, he doesn't sound too ridiculous singing Broadway, at least Rodgers & Hammerstein Broadway. (His version of "Soliloquy" from Carousel is wonderful.)
4. I have written a godawful quantity of social studies questions. Unfortunately it's only half the godawful quantity I need to write.
5. I had an online conversation yesterday with the woman who's in charge of the plot my character's gotten into at Legends. Yay for plot.
6. I like helping people work on their songs. I don't know that I'd have the patience to really teach voice, but maybe I can be a vocal coach.
7. I wish my new computer would hurry up and arrive.
8. Ditto for the purple suede jeans I ordered.
9. NationStates is way too addictive for something that silly.

2. Notes on watching the video of the Broadway revue I was in last fall:
- My sparkly top looks good on me, but better with the slacks than the skirt.
- My costume for "Can't Help Lovin' That Man" was even more unflattering than I realized, but vocally, I was pleased.
- Actually, I was more pleased with "I Want to Be Bad" than I expected to be, too, although my face really is still too damn fresh-and-innocent-looking to sing it effectively.
- I really need to learn not to fidget with my hair, clothes, etc. on stage.
- Musically, the show overall was as rough as I thought it was -- but enthusiasm really does make up for a lot.
- It's a good thing I didn't end up being a dancer in the show (which I was originally going to). I would have looked utterly stupid in the costumes for some of the numbers. I mean, I'm all for body confidence, but there are some things that just look better on some people than others!
