I'd just like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has ever been an accompanist for a rehearsal in which I participated. Even if I didn't think much of your accompanying. Thank you for suffering through it. All of you.

And on another note: My computer, according to the UPS tracking, is in Warwick, RI. Why, then, is Dell estimating that it won't arrive to me until the 10th? It seems to me it shouldn't take five days for it to get from Warwick to here...

I've never accompanied you (yet?), but I've struggled through many rehearsals-- and can assure you that "thank you" is something accompanists rarely hear. Say it in person, when you get the chance-- and you'll probably get better backup in the future! :)

Oh, believe me, I do say thanks. I've been an accompanist -- am one now, in fact -- and I know how much it matters. After accompanying a choreography rehearsal last night, I was reminded of how tedious rehearsals can be for the accompanist. (And to those of you in my reading audience who were there: I mean no particular criticism of last night's rehearsal -- it was no worse than any other, and better than many! I was just tired and bored and grouchy and had seventeen other things I could have been doing instead of playing that dance music umpteen times. :) )

So I thought I'd say thanks, globally. :)

On the whole, MITG&S does a pretty good job of thanking its accompanists. I really don't have anything to complain of, but that never stopped me before...

Global thanks locally accepted :-) --although I haven't accompanied your stage rehearsals specifically, so perhaps said thanks are not mine to accept. In my experience, at least one person has thanked me whenever I have accompanied--with exactly one exception. It was only a two-minute audition that a producer who shall remain nameless had asked me to accompany gratis for a singer--I was happy to, but it was so unusual not to be thanked afterward that, five years later, I still find it galling. Happily, the exception proves the rule.

Um...because it's UPS? It took them two weeks to figure out I was trying to deliver a package to a construction site and return the package, from a destination 5 hours away. I despise UPS in ways I can't even express for reasons no one would even believe.
