Reactions.
Oct. 17th, 2003 11:23 amBoston feels deflated this morning. Just in my small office, there are a number of rather groggy and dejected-looking people.
I think people are, consciously or otherwise, trying to pick each other up, though. One person brought in donuts from her neighborhood bakery this morning. And another person is going around getting people to order Chinese food for lunch, something that I haven't seen happen here before. It's kinda nice, actually.
Whatever else one can say about all this, the Red Sox postseason has brought people together. That sounds so corny, but it's also true. It's been something to talk about, something shared, and that's worth something.
Will it solve the debacle that is Iraq? Will it fix our economy? No, of course not, and those are all serious issues that we need to talk about. But for a couple of exciting weeks, a game was able to bring us out of our cocoons for a while. I just wish that happened more often.
