Bits and pieces.
Jul. 5th, 2006 09:09 amThis is not a good day for the AC at work to be out. I'm not actually sure if it's out, or if it was just off for the four-day weekend and therefore hasn't yet cooled the place down, but it's definitely warm in here.
I do love the Fourth of July on the river. The turnout was lower than usual this year, probably due to weather (there was rain earlier in the afternoon), but we had prime real estate directly in line with the fireworks barges. The Pops concert (played over speakers) was good; hearing Rockapella sing with orchestral backup was kind of odd, but it was cool to have them as one of the guests. This may also be the first time "Walk This Way" has ever been done with full orchestra. And of course, there was the 1812 overture, with cannons and church bells and fireworks, and "The Stars and Stripes Forever" to finish things off before the fireworks display. (There will be fireworks photos later when I get them uploaded.)
Obligatory Wordplay comments: My mom called and said she'd seen it. After discussing various bits, she commented on how good-looking she thought one "dark-haired young man" was, someone they interviewed, not one of the main contestants... I couldn't for the life of me figure out who she meant until later, when I realized (and she later called back to confirm) that she was talking about Ken Burns. Um, okay, mom. Yeah, he's not bad-looking, and he looks younger than he is, but.
Walked home after the fireworks last night. Was dripping sweaty by the time I got home, just because it was so muggy out.
Now, to acquire more cold things to drink, and maybe do some of, y'know, that work stuff.
