Well deserved

In the midst of all the depressing news of the day, I was glad to hear one report this morning as I lay in bed, drowsing and listening to NPR, that made me glad:
Jimmy Carter has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
I admire President Carter more than just about any public figure. He is, as someone said on the radio this morning, "a model ex-president" -- his presidency may have ranged from the unspectacular to the disastrous, depending on your opinion, but he has been a phenomenal force in his post-presidency years. Both in his own country with Habitat for Humanity and the like, and in his international mediation efforts, he seems to be continually trying to improve the world.
Cheers, Mr. President. You deserve it.
