Mulling the future, theatrically speaking.

Now that Patience is over, I'm looking ahead to future potential projects. I can't do Threepenny, because one of the performance weekends conflicts with the NPL convention. I'm inexplicably attracted to the idea of applying to stage direct Sorceror, but I know that's a bad idea while I'm still doing the Enigma and everything else -- doing vocal direction for Patience while doing the 'Nig nearly did me in, and stage directing is a bigger time commitment yet. (It's really tempting, though. There are neat staging things one can do with Sorceror.)
So what else is out there? Not having a car really does limit my ability to do shows; too many local theater places are just too far from T range to be doable when one has to get home late at night after rehearsals. The Footlight Club is about at the far end of what I'd be willing to do, and that'd have to be for a show I really want to do. But I need to get back on stage and do more singing. I get cranky when I go too long without a singing project. :)
Of course, today my voice sounds like crap because, on top of the bum knee, I got a cold last week. Whee...
Seriously, though, anyone have suggestions?

Date: 2006-05-01 02:55 pm (UTC)Sure, send me details. I don't want to commit to anything until I find out (presumably when I see the orthopedist tomorrow) the state of my knee and what's gong to be required in terms of physical therapy or whatever, but sure, send me the details. Thanks!

Date: 2006-05-01 03:21 pm (UTC)It's a little less obvious at closed auditions a la MITG&SP than at open ones a la TAF, but even there, those of us who know the people manning the table schmooze with them, which can't go unnoticed by the newcomers... (And at the one TAF audition I went to, their most recent one, there was not much cue about who was known and who wasn't except for who knew each other's names.)

Date: 2006-05-03 04:48 am (UTC)You could organize and perform in this:
"We are interested in getting some G&S singers for our 50th anniversary open house celebration June 17 or 18. We are probably interested in several (3-4) singers because we like the G&S ensemble singing especially. It seems to us that 45-50 minutes of singing would be appropriate. About pay, we have no idea what current rates are. We live in the middle of Cambridge (near Inman Sq) but have a large side yard, and hope that the weather will allow us to have our celebration outside. If not, we will hold it inside. We do have a Steinway in the living room, but I'm not sure what to do if we hold it outside.
You should know that we both sang G&S at school: G&S was sung at our wedding reception; and at our 25th anniversary we were able to hire some local Boston G&S singers to perform for our party. We go to G&S performances at both Harvard and MIT regularly. We are really fans.
