Alternatively, if I found a stone I liked that didn't have a hole, what would be the best way to convert it into a pendant that didn't involve having a drill? I know there are these things called "bails" that you can use to convert something into a pendant; would I just superglue it to the stone?

I believe there "special" glue that is used, an epoxy really, but I am unsure of were to find it, save checking out Michael's or Pearl. Another option is to wrap it with wire. I have seen some pretty interesting wraps where the wire creates a setting that leaves the middle of the stone clear.

Superglue works for a while, but it lets go. I do not recommend it. Wire wraps are a great idea, and can add to the art. Thin gold- or silver-toned wire is easily available from a craft store. Thin silver wire is pretty easily available if you get in touch with a jewelery-making type metalsmith or the supplire of such. (I bet you can google.) Gold wire is likely to cost more than you want to deal with for this.

I know that Spark in Davis stocks sterling silver (and maybe gold?) that the sell by the (some unit of length) but I have no idea how much it costs.

I also have enough silver-, copper-, red-, green-, blue- and gold-toned wire that you can certainly borrow/steal some. Let me know and I can add it to the Sax pile for tomorrow. I also have tools, if those would help.

My stepmother had a piece of sea glass she wanted made into a pendant, and I did a wire wrap for her. I have no training in this, however, so I have no idea if it actually stayed put once made. :-} But she was quite excited about it.

I third the suggestion for wire wraps; most of the ones I've seen look gorgeous. I may be able to put you in touch with an artist who does this stuff, if you're interested.

I could do it for ya. :)

Bails are okay, I have jeweler's glue. Wire wraps are elegant. Either way... find the stone and I'll labor for you!
