Got the OK to use the Brooklyn Marriott for the business trip. Yay. Reservation made.

Next question: do I come back and try to drive to Legends that Friday night, or do I come home, sleep at home overnight, and drive out in the morning? I think the latter is more promising. Either way, getting the rental car is going to be a bitch, though -- have to go to the airport for it, probably, 'cause none of the local offices are open at the right times.

Noodle noodle noodle...

See if you can hide a coin while you're there. ;)

why not just fly back and get a rental car at the airport? A cheap flight has to be comparable to the train.

FYI JetBlue was $60 the last time I took it to JFK. And $39 (!) when I flew back.

can't argue with that logic!

Yeah but LimoLiner gives you reclining leather seats, a nice little meal, and wireless internet, plus a power outlet at your seat. AND they have a row of single seats if you don't want to sit next to anyone.

I second the limoliner - my MIL takes it when she comes to visit us. And it costs less than the train. And you arrive not too far from my office.

Is there a compelling reason to drive? Because if not, I'd recommend taking the train or the Limoliner (http://limoliner.com/), both of which are quicker and more comfortable than flying, and a hell of a lot less stressful than driving.

If you rent cars in Boston, have you looked into zipcar? (zipcar.com)

I've been using them in NYC, and even once in San Francisco, and have been very happy. You do some paperwork with them at the outset, and then when you get a car you don't have to do *anything* besides reserving it online. Here, at least, it costs less than renting a car from an agency, and picking it up at odd hours is no problem.

Ah, that makes sense then. I never see weekend deals here in NYC for rental cars, so it still works out cheaper for me to use Zipcar even if it's for three days. And I love not having to deal with the rental people.

I have no advice on the rental car, but since you got the Brooklyn Marriott (yay!), here's a link to the Brooklyn area guide I'd already started working on for the 2008 ACPT. You can definitely get some good restaurant recs out of it! http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dcbghqb8_1hrxrhd

Also if you'd like to work out somewhere bigger than the hotel gym, there is a New York Sports Clubs on the corner of Remsen and Court Streets, about two blocks from the hotel. You can get in with your Boston Sports Club membership.
