I have been correlating all the day,
And so my brain is mush. Last night
Was fun, but late: I went to see two shows
In ImprovBoston's "Geek Week." One was called
"In the Garage," about some gamer kids
And their lives in and out of game. Quite dark,
Much darker than the last time they ran that.
Before that, there was "Quest," which may well be
My favorite improv show: an epic in
A fantasy world, evil versus good,
And all that stuff. 'Twas good to see again.

Quite soon, I'll leave the office and head home,
And thence to Legends. First LARP of the year!
The rain's no fun (I don't have to pretend
I like it anymore :) ), but that's okay --
I'm looking forward to the weekend still.
I'll catch you on the flip side (Sunday night,
At earliest). Have a good weekend, all!

An improv show that one can see again?
I'm wondering exactly how that works.

Well, the original version of Quest was an 8-week long story arch that worked like a tv show in that each weekly episode had a small plot in it that added to the larger, over-all plot. Then there was a sequel to the first Quest and a sequel to the second Quest. All three Quests put together told a rather larger story like a three season tv show.

Other than a lose storyline that was known only to the Dungeon Master, everything was improvised, though because it was a continuing story, characters came back week after week and one or two of them came back for all three seasons (okay, those were gods so it doesn't really count). There was a lot of improvised boffer fighting and good and evil fighting for the fate of the world and that kind of thing.

The show that Sax is talking about was a "one-shot" version of Quest that continues the story thousands of year before or after the earlier three seasons. There might be plans to continue that story line, but nothing is set in stone.
