Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] davehogg's theory about dead horses and romance covers, I have wandered into the land of votes for the worst romance covers in a given year. And I can't stop laughing, at the covers and even more at the commentary.

And so I must share. Some are borderline NSFW if your office is picky.

2006 "Dude. I guess it doesn't matter since the tsunami is going to kill them both."
2005 "Plus, it looks like she's about to dance the flamenco, which as far as I know is not Celtic."
2004 "Watch out, evildoers - Butt with a badge!"
2003 "In case of intrusion by shirtless, faceless man, please place hand over the eyes of the man cowering next to you, cover your nose and mouth with your finger, and breathe normally."
2002 "I really can't think of anything less likely to make me buy a book than the feeling that its protagonist wants nothing more than to hack me to pieces with a sword, and then maybe let a cobra finish me off."
2001 "Brittney Spears called, and she wants her clothes back."

(There are also results from 1999 and 2000, but fewer funny comments.)

If you haven't seen it before, you have to go there now: Longmire Does Romance Novels.

There's a romance novel cover where the woman has three arms. The author of the novel has commented on it more than once. Unfortunately, I don't remember either title or author (it might be Christina Dodd), so I can't tell you where to find it. I sold quite a few copies of that book because of that cover, though.
