Reminder to self: you can take the bus for Thanksgiving. For a small sacrifice in flexibility, you save a lot in money and driving frustration. ($45 round trip vs. multiple days of car rental + gas.)
(Also, depending on when you want the car you might be able to borrow ours rather than renting; we usually have access to many cars around Thanksgiving and not much need for them.)
(Yeah, I think the car doesn't start to make economic sense until there are two people in it, but if something makes your plans go kablooey it could help. Or if someone wants you to take multiple cats down to DC or something :-)
Oh, I assumed you were going to Colorado or I would have suggested it! I discovered the bus as an alternative to flying to Pittsburgh and DC last year, and I vastly prefer it. It's *more* flexible than flying, in a way, because you don't have to buy your ticket months in advance to get a decent fare. It just costs what it costs, which I find unbelievably refreshing. Plus, better for the planet! :)
