Maybe, just maybe, I've cleaned out the bad stuff? So far, this time around I'm not seeing any popups or bogus spyware notifications.

I recommend AVG antivirus software. It's what finally seems to have gotten rid of the things that were re-installing things every time. That plus another round of Spybot.

I need a drink.

I've been using the AVG antivirus/firewall package for a year or so now. I also keep a copy of Clam (open source anti-virus) handy as an alternate. And there's Spybot and AdAware too.

I also avoid IE like it's H5N1 or something. It's Firefox for me everyday, with Adblock Plus and Flashblock Addons/Extensions to keep a lot of the junk out, and Opera as my browser for when I'm in certain moods. Thunderbird is my email client. I also have admin-powered and non-admin-powered accounts on my XP installations for different tasks.
