Stamford, briefly.
Mar. 16th, 2003 10:19 pmStamford is over... great fun, as always. It's refreshing to the soul as well as the brain to spend time with these people. Lots of these people -- 494 contestants this year, and we're pushing the limits of what that ballroom can hold. Lots of laughter, which feels so good after the last few stressful weeks.
Saturday was my best puzzle day ever, I think. Kept pace with the big dogs on almost all the puzzles, and was within 4 minutes of the A finals after Saturday's puzzles. On puzzle 1, I had my fastest-ever Stamford time and one of my fastest crossword times ever -- about 2:40 on a very easy puzzle.
Of course, I then made a mistake on puzzle 7. *sigh* SOMEDAY I will get through clean, I swear!
And then, I think my final score is wrong in the rankings, as the score for puzzle 7 is much, much too low even with the mistake taken into consideration. Have reported this to the powers that be... will see what happens. I think I should have been 13th overall, same as last year.
To anyone who was at my table at lunch or awards: I apologize for being so sort of deflated; I had just discovered the mistake and was very disappointed because I'd thought I'd finally gotten through with no mistakes and maybe made the top 10. When I get an emotional smack like that, it can take me a bit to recover, and unfortunately in this case that bit was in public. I'm okay, really! And I'm sorry if I seemed out of sorts.
Now I should go to bed.
