saxikathHaven't done one of these in a long time, it's the afternoon before a holiday, and my brain's off the hook. So!
1) How old do you look?
Younger than I am, apparently. People tend to think I'm in my 20s. I'm not sure how much of that is how I look and how much is how I act. :)
2) Where is the person who has your heart at this moment?
Um... sitting right here, typing?
3) Are you waiting for something?
Several things.
4) What were you doing at ten last night?
Sprawled on the couch, half-watching the Sox game, and doing stuff online.
5) Last myspace message you received, what'd it say?
No clue. I have a myspace, but I don't use it.

Usually.
7) Did you cry today?
Nope.
8) Do you hate the last person you had a conversation with?
No.
9) Is there anyone who understands your relationship status?
I don't know, I haven't asked. I suppose so.

Yes.

What colorwheel said in this meme was pretty shocking: that laura ingalls wilder, while happy to portray indians as savage and less than human, intentionally omitted info about white serial killers.

Diet Dr. Pepper. Should have more water.

My mom, given people's reactions. But like my dad when I smile.

Probably, but I don't remember.

Immediate family, Colorado. Other family, New England and Indiana.

Possibly my toe. Otherwise, no.

I had what I think of as a panic attack. I don't know if it was officially one, but it sure wasn't fun.

I have, but it's not comfortable.

If they have, they've never told me.

Date: 2008-07-03 07:17 pm (UTC)Actually, I felt like the article was presenting the story as if Reese thought Wilder obviously ought to have been perfectly happy to include the part about serial killers and vigilante justice if she was going to talk about Indian massacres, even indirectly. That doesn't make sense; neither one belongs in Wilder's books as she wrote them. (Also, I'd have to go back and reread the books to really say, but I never felt like said anything about Indians as terrifying as that story about the Benders. I'm sure I'd remember... I still vividly remember reading the Crucible in high school and being shocked and horrified by Abigail's description of how her parents were murdered, by Indians, in bed next to her. Surely I couldn't have forgotten anything that shocking in the Little House books...?) Anyway, it is a shame that she did not see stories about savage Indians the same ways she saw stories about equally savage whites... but not a shock. :\
I respect Reese a great deal and she's brought many important problems -- things I was reluctant to really see -- to light. But I can't share her hatred of the Little House books, nor her view that children's books with unenlightened views of Indians should be removed from library shelves, taken out of circulation, hidden forever from children's eyes etc. Though I guess I can understand it.
All that said I also thought the omitted story itself was creepy and fascinating and I'm glad to have read it! I had had thoughts about it, but had forgotten. Thanks for reminding me.
