So I have a crazy load of stuff to do at work, plus it's prod week for F@F5. (Which you should all come see. Dress rehearsal last night was... interesting... but it's actually gelling quite well.)

So Monday morning, first thing, my work computer chokes and dies. Spent much of that day (when I wasn't in meetings) waiting for the tech guy to get a new one in place and fix all the settings and so forth and so on.

Then last night, after dress rehearsal, I get home around 11:30, sweaty and tired and ready for bed...

...and my house key breaks clean off in the lock. Like, the metal just gave out and I was left holding the bit attached to my key chain, and the rest of it was in the lock.

Fortunately, a neighbor's light was on and she was still awake, so I went and got a phone book and found a locksmith. (This is one of those times when I'm really really glad I have a cell phone.) I was actually really impressed with him. He was pleasant and professional, arrived within half an hour, had the key out within 15 minutes, and even cut me a new one on the spot (I had a spare key, but he cut me a new one so I'd still have a spare). And charged what seemed a quite reasonable fee for a midnight call. So if you're in Camberville and need a locksmith, I definitely recommend Bonded Lock Service.

I'd like to have nothing else break, please?

Lol. And ugh, sorry about your keys! That really just sounds unecessary.

Wow... I've heard of that happening with really cold car keys, but not with a house lock! Maybe you don't know your own strength...

I'd like to have nothing else break, please?

Seconded!

I had a dream with you in it last night. We were at a puzzle convention --- I was doing poorly as expected [it was a modified "oh no the final exam is today" dream] and you won! Plus you had a cool costume on. No idea what that means.

I think I had the dream because I had a similar key experience to you and had a nice locksmith as well. I was in Canyon De Chelly in Arizona (very remote spot) and it was a Sunday. I had to be in Phoenix by 7pm for a scientific meeting. My rental car key broke in the door of the car. This is before cellphones. And it was a Sunday. And I was in the desert.

It took awhile but I got someone and he didn't charge me an arm and a leg. Had to race like the dickens to Phoenix but I made it!

Oh, he *was* a little annoyed at first, but had to laugh when he heard my story. :)

yikes, sounds like you've had a tough time.

in other news, I'm in the Boston area this week, staying with Jenn... we're planning a dinner at Christopher's at 6 tomorrow (Thursday) but I am not sure I have a current email address for you, all I seem to have is your NPL one. Anyway, would love to see you!

I have a show tomorrow, alas. But if you get done with dinner in time and want some comedy (or if you need something to do Friday or Saturday night), come! :)
