Prophecy moments.

So, Prophecy.
Had a very good time, despite it being my second LARP weekend in a row with heavy rain. I'm ready for a dry one sometime soon, please. The mists were incredibly atmospheric, though. I wish someone could have gotten a picture of us moving off into the darkness and mist for the late-night Saturday fight -- this line of people vanishing into the mist, with only the glow of their lightsticks shining.
Some highlights:
Less good things: not sleeping well. Messes with the whole system, though at least I didn't get the bad mood that often comes along with it. Also wasn't entirely fond of being told, at 3 a.m. on a misty night, "The bad guys left something corrupted here when they were here earlier. Go find it." (In the dark, with no description.) It turned out to be in a place we couldn't get to because a module was going on.
But on the whole, that's not a lot of bad to go with a lot of good. :)

I wish someone could have gotten a picture of us moving off into the darkness and mist for the late-night Saturday fight -- this line of people vanishing into the mist, with only the glow of their lightsticks shining.
Some highlights:
- Singing my vocal cords out. I got to use my new Lyrimancy spells; I tried an area effect awaken on the Iron Guard Friday night, but it didn't work. I healed myself a couple of times. I worked on learning some more songs -- the Ronnoi spirit song, the song the Spiritist smashed at Watersong, the song we wrote for the UthNeth... and, of course, the Song of Courage. I think everyone is thoroughly sick of being ready for the storm now, but it was very gratifying to stand in the middle of the fight providing the soundtrack -- and keeping everyone able to resist the fear that the nightmares were throwing around. I'm pleased, and a little surprised, that I still know how to sing properly well enough to avoid trashing my voice when doing these things.
- Doing Tamalasque stuff. We did the ritual to cut the connection between people and Hobitaud... six times? Something like that. I love being a Tamalasquan, because we make things up as we go a lot of the time. :) And we have a wonderful and wacky idea for how to replace the Isle of the Dead once it gets blown up, one that I think I can actually help with, if we can figure out how to do it. I enjoy playing with the other Tamalasquans, both PC and NPC.
- Laughing. A lot. Despite all the high-intensity epic-level stuff going on, or perhaps because of it, I think I laughed more at this event than I have at most LARP events. Some of it was thoroughly puerile, but ... still, way too funny. "Bastard Squirrel sucks water out of things to keep his nuts dry!" And the conversation about diviners getting married. "Did you forget to stop at the market three days from now?"
- The marriage proposal. The conversation at the dinner table, where Lucien said that if there were a priest of Leukos in the room, he'd ask Valena to marry him right then. Kymrick double-daring Samarra to stand up and ask. Samarra doing so.
tenwii's NPC, who isn't one, claiming to be one. Lucien going over to Valena... and Valena running away, only to be caught by Samarra and then me, and managing to start dragging both of us and our chairs across the floor! And, of course, Valena saying yes. :)
- Successfully, we think, helping the Green Folk. Meeting Avessa and getting a token from the three types of Green Folk that are around, and then summoning an UthNeth from the past. Singing to him and dancing with him, and reminding him that he's not alone, a message we hope he takes back into the past and carries to the others.
- Gatemarch is so awesome. You never know who will show up! I only heard about the students who came back in time to meet the authors of their textbooks, instead of having to sit through class, but that was great.
- Big satisfying battles. Rescuing Baron DeBrock in the pouring rain. Going after the Thandakar. Beating up sea creatures. Sevi's not supposed to be a front-liner, but I do enjoy being involved. And the healers, during the Thandakar fight, were very effective, I thought. The glove that let me throw repel was handy, too. "Hey, you Eaten, get back!" Hearing my first Legendary Rally. Using a feat for the first time myself (An Encouraging Word, used on Samarra during the Thandakar fight).
- Having people worry about me when I needed surgery (twice). Having Samarra go and sacrifice herself for me, Baron DeBrock, and Dayne. There's nothing quite like waking up to find your friend dead on the ground beside you.
- Having Lucien lecture me while I was undergoing surgery the second time. :)
- Undead chicken. No, really. When it first showed up, outside in dim light, I didn't actually see it clearly and I thought the clucking was just someone taunting us for being cowards. But then they came back later and came into the tavern, and, yes, it was a chicken. That silenced the entire room. Which led to Tlena coming out of the bathroom into a completely silent tavern after the fight ended, and asking, "Did something happen while I was in the privy?"
- Jackard redeeming himself after failing his fear challenge, by actually confronting his fear in real life. Nicely, nicely done. I was glad I could help, albeit unknowingly, by praising you to your mother. :)
- The final battle. Standing there singing the Song of Courage while everyone threw themselves into the fight, for Rachenza, for Arden, for get the hell out of there, you damn Warden! I loved that the NPCs came back as Caer Rachenzan townsfolk after we drove the Warden out and defeated the nightmares. And capping it all off with the coronation. It would have been fun to plan and hold our own version of the coronation, but to have it witnessed and acclaimed by the townsfolk of Caer Rachenza along with us was very nice -- and it was a great capper for the weekend.
- Meeting Vanya.
warriorbard63, would that character and Sevi have been buddies in a hurry, or what? :) Having my knowledge about the Mist Wardens and Meverel Keep be useful in interpreting the song the Spiritist smashed.
- Being recognized for wayfinding ability. Having people specifically want me to be involved with things.
Less good things: not sleeping well. Messes with the whole system, though at least I didn't get the bad mood that often comes along with it. And - we're going to have a dry event this coming weekend. Because I said so.

Date: 2008-09-30 01:03 pm (UTC)Pretty much. And telling me to wear armor.
He was also trying to crack me up, I think, asking Arrowhawk, "Is the blood supposed to be squirting out like that?"

Date: 2008-09-29 10:45 pm (UTC)Lucian's proposal was one of my favorite bits of the event. Especially your and Samarra's "assistance". Hee!
And I have to say that Ufneth song was fabulous. Totally unexpected and totally pefect. Good luck for better weather at your next LARP weekend!

Date: 2008-09-29 11:23 pm (UTC)even writing that "song" (poem, really, until Sevi - at the last second - fit a melody to it because we realized we'd have to dance) was fun. we worked on it in the middle of working on three other songs. i had forgotten what it was like to have such a lyrimancy-heavy weekend... and yet still get a couple huge Natrammancy moments.

Date: 2008-09-30 12:22 pm (UTC)Seriously, that was great fun to be part of. I felt a bit like an interloper, but at the same time, it was awesome, dancing around him in the dark.
And I like doing these highlights posts. They help me when I go to write my PEL a few days later, so I don't forget things! (Or at least forget fewer things.)
