You can't stop the beat!

I have my musical theater dance class tonight. One of the songs we're working on right now is "You Can't Stop the Beat," from Hairspray. And there's one stanza that has been running through my head this morning.

You can't stop today (no!)
As it comes speeding down the track (ooh, child, yeah!)
Yesterday is history (begone!)
And it's never coming back! (Look ahead!)
'Cause tomorrow is a brand new day
And it don't know white from black!

It seems appropriate this morning.

(Before anyone gets on my case: yes, there are still a lot of racial issues in this country. I know. But this is a truly historic moment, and let me enjoy it for a little while before we have to go back to the messy reality of life!)

We never see as bright a day as described in that stanza (and I love that song because of its beautiful message), but I, too, will be damned if this latest turn isn't going to fill me with hope and the promise of tomorrow.

I only just got it out last week after a solid week of it being stuck in there from a show that had that piece as part of their performance.

I just saw the movie musical (coughcoughtwicecough) a week and a half ago and that song has been in my head and now it is back.
*sigh*
Could be worse.
