Late-night lj
Apr. 5th, 2003 12:34 amWell, not that late by some standards, but late by mine.
Utopia opening night: Not bad. I muffed some of the bassoon cues still, but eventually got the one in the first act finale that I was having trouble with last night. Smallish audience, but they seemed to enjoy it. I can tell I've been sitting in front of a speaker and with timpani next to me... my ears are tired.
Then on the way home, weirdness hits: I'm listening to the BBC World Service as they discuss the war, and suddenly their guest expert is one Joanna Spear... who is my cousin. I forget exactly how we're related, it's several levels distant, but I've met her. She was in Cambridge for a couple of years at the JFK School, so we drove up to NH to see my/our family there together, and she came to see me when I was in the grad school infirmary with chicken pox. I vaguely knew she worked on things that could be related to the war, but I certainly never expected to hear her voice coming from my car radio!
And now, because I'm not quite ready to go to bed: The Friday Five.
1. How many houses/apartments have you lived in throughout your life?
Twelve, if you count the four dorm rooms as one. All of them in three states: California, Massachusetts, and Colorado.
2. Which was your favorite and why?
Hard to pick one. The house on Ingersoll Place in Boulder is what I think of as my childhood home, and it was a good place to be... back yard, a basement to play in, safe neighborhood, fireplace, quite a lot of space... Mystic House was the only other actual house I've lived in since then. I like my current place, but there's something about an actual house that's appealing.
3. Do you find moving house more exciting or stressful? Why?
Stressful. Getting to a new place and setting it up is exciting, but the process is awful.
4. What's more important, location or price?
Location, I guess, though price is certainly key.
5. What features does your dream house have (pool, spa bath, big yard, etc.)?
A proper study/office, with lots of bookshelf space.
Big sunny windows. A window seat.
A yard and a garden to putter in. Trees in the yard.
A room set aside for music and crafty things (or, better yet, a room for each!)
Lots of closets.
Hardwood floors.
A big kitchen with lots of cabinets and counter space, a new gas stove, a dishwasher, and an island in the middle with a pot rack over it.
A pantry. A built-in china cupboard.
A fireplace.
And a secret passage. :)
