Recently, I wrote a feature on the senses for a textbook, with a largish chunk about synesthesia.

This weekend, I acquired a copy of "Shut Up and Sing," a CD by the wonderful a cappella group The Bobs. And damned if there isn't a song on it called "Synaesthesia", sung from the point of view of someone who sees colors when they hear sounds.

I wonder if this is true of one of the Bobs, or if they just heard about it? I'm fascinated. Good song, too.

I've been curious - is there a name for the thing which isn't really full-blown synaesthesia, but is perhaps its littler cousin? I don't actually see colours or feel textures or the like from sounds... but I definitely have very distinct associations that I make to them - visual noise translates very closely to audio noise, and things like that.
