Not the best event ever; there was too much downtime, and someone I wanted to speak to wasn't there. But even an imperfect Legends event is still a lot of fun, and I feel very refreshed.

The boot question remains unresolved. Neither the old nor the new boots really does the job; I have blisters today. Must keep working on this. The old are giving me blisters; the new don't have enough cushioning/support in the balls of the feet.

Cool new mechanic for the water magic I'm learning: I get extra spells if I stand in water. There wasn't nearly as much of it this time as last time (fortunately; last time was way too soggy!), but I did get to use it a couple of times. And I got to fight, and spend a wonderful few hours around a campfire.

I also died twice, which is not so good. And it's probably not a good sign when a player I don't even interact much with in game (though some of my friends do) comments, in the bathroom after game ended Saturday night, "You have a reputation of dying too often." Must try not to do that.

Not long ago, I read the book Dream Park, by Larry Niven and Steven Barnes. It's a mystery set during a LARP at a high-tech amusement park. At the end, there's the following exchange.

"Millie whistled. 'That's a lot of business backed up there. Good luck. Personally, I'd rather be fighting monsters.'
Wouldn't we all? he said silently. Wouldn't we all."

Yeah. I would.

I had the impression that Dream Park inspired LARPing, actually. Is that not accurate?

In one of his forwards (I think to the sequel to DP) Niven explains that, while not inspiring LARPing per se, his book did provide the impetus for the formation of the International Fantasy Gaming Society and did a lot in the way of bringing more people and support to the LARP community.
