Umm ...

That's truly frightening. And let's not even get into the rodent version of Noah's Ark. *shudder*

It's a joke. But so subtly done that I fell for it, too. The whole site is a joke, and it's really hard to tell.

annoying, really.

I thought some of them were kind of cute. "Thermodynamics of hellfire" for instance...

How did you finally figure out it was a joke?

Here's one clue, from their main page:

We have moved again. While closely rereading the Statement of Faith of our previous webhost, Cross Spot, we made the sad discovery that they are not firm enough in their opposition to the erroneous doctrine of triclavianism.

though it was hard. from my embarassed mea culpa after I sent this site out to people in april 2002:

That's the thing. Parts of it don't read like parody at all:

Contact the webhost of Landover Baptist and inform them of what
they are hosting. Clearly they are unaware of the contents of
this site, or else it would have been deleted. If the webhost
is part of the anti-Christian agenda, then we must contact any
other of their service providers - including the phone company,
domain name service, etc. - that are unknowingly being used to
further hatred and inform them of Americhrist Ltd.'s true
intentions.

Next, we should bring the site to the attention of the makers
of Internet filtering and blocking software. Ultimately,
Landover Baptist is much more dangerous than any pornography
site since it leads people to reject their only hope for
salvation!

That doesn't make sense for a parody site. Many articles linked
on there don't. But others...

Troll around the cite for a while. Parts of it are pretty clearly parody. Other parts don't seem like it. I don't like this site. Since it's hard to discern that it's parody, it gives a bad name to folks who might not deserve it.

Agreed! When I first saw the site my reaction was "Too over the top, it must be parody"; but I couldn't actually point to anything that would prove it. Just gut instinct. I still can't definitively point to anything, it's just...a lot.

And yes, since once every few months someone I know finds the Creation Science Fair in particular and looks dismayed, I really wish there were some indication. There's enough to hate about creation science without making up more.

All my joke-dar was going off after reading a few of the "projects," but what really convinced me was this bit from the front page: "For the safety of your soul, do not be tempted by the lure of impulse rock chip repair from strangers in parking lots. It may say free, but it could cost you your soul! If you need your windshield fixed, go to a qualified Christian repair shop."

It's true that the site never explicitly says it's a joke (at least not that I can tell). Which bugs me. My joke-dar is pretty good, but there has to be a way to verify it.

(That said, I thought the projects were hilarious. I'm particularly fond of "My Uncle is Steve (Not a Monkey)." Because, see, Steve doesn't eat bananas!)
