Audition! Must audition!
Dec. 22nd, 2003 10:22 pmI knew this was coming around, but until I just looked at the postcard I got, I'd forgotten the auditions were so soon. The Footlight Club is doing Ragtime this spring, which I adore. Auditions are coming up January 4th and 5th. Must find audition song!
Those of you who have heard me sing: what do you think would convince the auditioners that this usually-classical-type singer is just perfect for, say, Emma Goldman? (In my dreams, I'd play Mother, but I can't belt, so my chances are slim.) Or even the chorus. I'm at a loss... not sure what Broadway stuff really shows me off well. Advice? Please?
And I don't have much time to prep, because I leave tomorrow to be in Colorado for Christmas. Back Sunday night.
Happy Hanukkah, merry Christmas, bright Yule, and general good wishes to all of you out there in lj-land.

That might be a bit low for your range, but I think it’s close to Emma’s range in Ragtime. "Paris Original" from How to Succeed might be fun – it’s about the same range but a bit more upbeat. Maybe "Sensitivity" from Once Upon a Mattress? I think that you would want to avoid anything too legato considering the show.
Anyway, toi toi toi!
