My parents love it and swear by it. Then again, they also have a DVD-R drive, so draw your own conclusions. You have to be careful that they don't jerk you around with not giving you high-demand movies that are high up on your list. But in general, they seem to be pretty good.
The question is how often are you likely to watch movies. Myself, I don't watch them nearly enough for the service to be worthwhile. And I have a bunch which I still *need* to watch. However, YMMV.
I went to Netflix (when I could afford it) after realizing that forgetting to return the DVDs at the local place for a week meant about 70$ in late fees.
I would start off small (the cheapest subscription is 1 movie out at a time), and I would see how many movies you tend to watch in a month and how many you get. I liked it a lot, but I also used movies as background to other things I did around the apartment.
I love it, but it really depends on your distribution point. In Michigan, I could mail out a DVD to them on Monday and have the next one by Wednesday. Since I moved to Nashville, it's more like a 6 day turn around than two. But I still adore them. I've always got something to watch, and it doesn't matter if plans change and i don't have time to watch it right away.
