I want a stone pendant that I can decorate.

Ideally, I want a smooth, rounded, natural stone, maybe an inch or two across, that I can paint a design on. It needs to be drilled or otherwise prepared so I can hang it on a cord as a pendant.

Can anyone suggest where I might find such a thing, either online or in the Boston area?

One idea that pops into my head is to make your own.

You could use Granitex. You can make it to any size you want and poke holes in it how ever you want. I might even have some hanging around. In addition to painting it, you can use a different color to make the pattern look "natural."

They have gray and a brownish color. I can dig up a few examples and bring them when we meet to Slay on Saturday.

Hm. I think Unicorn Books has things /like/ that... (in Porter. Etc.)

You know, you can see fairies through a self-bored stone. Do you think you can hold out until you find or are given one?

I've found a number over the centuries, but I don't know that I still have any. I'll check on Sunday night, though.

I've got a Dremel tool - I've never used it to drill stone but it should be capable.

Heather gets a lot of beads and stones for her jewelry from http://www.firemountaingems.com — I have no idea what they have along the lines you describe, but they might be worth checking. I know when she's called them, she's said they were really helpful, too, so you might be able to contact them and describe what you're looking for, as well.

Poke [livejournal.com profile] sothe offline if none of the above suggestions pan out. He's dealt with most of the art-stuff suppliers in New England over the years.
