"Add a comment to this journal telling me what you remember about first meeting me (online most certainly counts; if you have a choice between online and in person, I'll request the most amusing :-) I'll respond to each comment with my memories of you.

And, of course, if you like it, try it in your own journal."

Oh, it has to be in person.

Logan Airport, February of 1995(!)

I've just gotten off a plane, and I'm about to meet three beautiful women, all of whom I know from #callahans and adore greatly. I've seen a good picture of one of them, a fuzzy picture of a second and have no more than a verbal description of the third.

I'm coming down the corridor toward the revolving doors and scanning the people beyond. I see three women of approximately the right age, and I'm trying to decide if they are [livejournal.com profile] claudia_, [livejournal.com profile] saxikath and Calico. Just as I get to the door, out of the corner of my eye, I see the actual trio ... complete with a big sign, flowers and balloons.

I'm so startled, flattered and excited that I manage to trip and go through the revolving door face-first. It was a very inelegant start to a weekend that, eight-plus years later, remains one of the most wonderful times of my life.

Pumpkin vindaloo? Dare I ask?

Pumpkin vindaloo was a running #c joke. It started during a discussion of Indian cooking when people were talking about different dishes and someone jokingly suggested pumpkin vindaloo. It quickly became the most feared object on earth.

When anyone would mention it, C would scream in terror, and I would bravely throw myself on it to save her.

So, when I knew I was going to meet her right around her birthday, I made some, placed it in a tupperware container and wrapped it up as a birthday present.

She opened it at the airport and I can still remember her uncontrollable laughter when she realized what it was.

I distinctly recall that pumpkin vindaloo being ceremonially disposed of in a trash can on Dunster St in Harvard Square, probably violating all kinds of hazmat regulations.

I met Saxikath at another Realspace; she was sitting on the steps of Faneuil Hall with a sign that said "RealSpace", getting funny looks from passersby. That was right before we pulled the purple hand stunt on /*.

I never met you. You and I have always and forever known each other.

Okay, that's not true. But while I have a pretty good idea of the actual calendar date when we first met (give or take a couple months) and even a 75%-probability guess as to the room where we met, I don't actually have specific memories of what happened then/there.

One of my earliest concrete memories of you involves a usenet exchange that resulted in my referring to you for many years afterward as "Gwnlln" (which is quite pronouncable, thankyouverymuch).

Let's see...First rehearsal for the Breton Christmas Revels. Early September 1996. I had just graduated college and had been in 4 previous Revels. Therefore, I probably sauntered into the first rehearsal with a visible aura of believing myself to be Extremely Cool. And yet we managed to become friends anyways. Go figure. :)

Does seeing you on stage as the Fairy Queen count?

I think I met you as fellow chorister in Grand Duke. I suppose you might've accompanied a Sorcerer rehearsal, but I'm afraid I tended not to "meet" rehearsal pianists for Sorcerer; I was too busy trying to direct. (I think I was friendlier and more appreciative of them on Pirates, where I felt more at ease with the job, the group, and the show.)

(pointed here via gnomi) I met you probably in early 1990, via yawn (shectma2) and Michael. I don't remember exactly when, though - I've always been terrible at that.

hee, sorry. this userpic will probably help. Joanne, if you need a real name still. And the Michael previously referred to is Kleber.

Iolanthe, but of course. I don't remember much specifically about meeting you (first sing-through, I suppose), although I do remember being appointed chief hairdresser to the Fairy Queen when we got to prod week. :-)

I met you at the 1998 Halloween party at your place on Huron. etc. had invited me to the party although she couldn't attend herself. Your costume was a sandwich-board crossword that you had constructed for the occasion. I remember talking with you and Kray (whom I also met for the first time then) about the NPL.

Well, I know for certain I saw you in Iolanthe... Were you in any shows prior to that? I seem to remember that in Iolanthe I recognized you as having been in previous choruses, and I did play bass for every MITGSP show from spring '97 Patience through Grand Duke.

At any rate, I'm pretty certain I first properly met you in Pinafore.

I met you when I was a lowly chorister for Iolanthe and you were an amazing Faerie Queen. :) Nothing particularly amusing, unfortuantely.

As covered elsewhere, of course, we first met at the party during Mystery Hunt '00 (which would make it mid-January). Reposted here for posterity, and in case anyone wanders into this thread and is curious. :-)

Let's see...I don't have an exact date, but it was Spring of 1989, probably on the first or second day of rehearsals for PRINCESS IDA. I imagine that we probably met for real when we were paired together as a G&S couple for the end of the opera. Basically, because my sash was the same color as the bow around your hat, we knew (or at least our characters knew) that we were meant for each other.

Then after the show, I called you up and asked you out to the Lowell House Spring Swing, and you said yes, and you had your prom dress (blue?) sent from Colorado just for the dance, and we had a great time...

I could go on from here, but some things should just remain between us. :-)

during which we discussed the Hitchhiker's radio series

Right! I do recall some of that now. My roommate and I were both very into Hitchhiker's. I seem to remember borrowing the tapes from you.

You remain, to this day, the first and only man who ever asked me to a dance.

Really? A lot of men don't know what they're missing. I'd ask you to a dance again, but I'm spoken for.

I also remember that you did me the honor of accompanying my family and me to a performance of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF at the Wang Center, with Topol as Tevye, but that was about a year later.

I, too, met your regal highness as the Fairy Queen, and I remember your gracious acknowledgment backstage when the audience sang "God Save the Queen" before each show.

(And you were very sweet backstage during Duke when I took over hairdressing duties :-} -- chanaleh being too busy being a supernumerary and all.)

Hey, you made at least one of my days by handing me a small box of handmade chocs as a thankyou for the hair. Quite seriously, moments like that compensate for any amount of kvetching from those who hate eyeliner or can't abide age makeup.

Well, I know it was "interviewing" you for Mystic House-to-be... I think it was at Grendel's?
